Stirling Castle from the old Dock at Alloa

The significance of Stirling Castle here; apart from other Royal connections to the County, Mary Queen of Scots was friends with the Earl of Mar and Kellie. She would also travel from Edinburgh to Stirling and the best way to travel was up the river thus passing Alloa. When she fled to England, her son, James the 6th of Scotland who became the 1st of England, was left in the care of the Earl and he was brought up at Stirling. He may have spent time at Alloa.
