Helen Crawford

(1866-1922)

Helen Crawford was born 5th November 1866 in Row, Knightswood, New Kilpatrick and died 27th May 1922 at Meadowbank, Uddingston. She married Robert Andrew (formerly known as David Andrew for some unknown reason) 30th December 1887 in Established Church, Kelvinside, Maryhill, son of John Andrew and Catherine Marshall. He was born 16th March 1857 in Netherton Colliery, New Kilpatrick, Dunbarton, and died 3rd April 1934 in 32 Laighmuir Street, Uddingston.

Helen was a domestic servant and lived with her parents at 25 Whitelaw Street, Maryhill in 1887. Robert was an Iron Stone & Coal Miner between 1887 - 1926 and lived at 6 Morrison Street, Maryhill when they married. In 1861, Robert was at Cowdenhill House, New Kilpatrick, Dumbartonshire and in 1881 at Blue Row, New Kilpatrick, Dumbarton.

The family were at 1 Wellwynd Street, Airdire in 1891 and Palmers Road, Uddingston in 1901. Between 1897 - 1901, Violet Bank, Uddingston. Helen's brother Peter was with them in 1901 and her father died there. In 1911 they resided at 14 Watson Street, Uddingston, Lanarkshire.

Wellwynd Street has been rebuilt but these remaining old houses are the only remains of the old street. They are old weavers cottages.

This old church and graveyard are at Wellwynd Street. The graves are too old for any of the Andrew family to be there. There was nothing to say what church this was and looks to be closed down. the graveyard was full of broken bottles and beer cans as well as the remnants of drug addicts.

Thanks to Barry Warner for the additional family leads!

Barry sent me a tree which made my day! It was for the family of Robert Andrew and Helen Crawford. A family member, in Largs ,had made the tree for him some years ago and it added a few children to the family as well as providing a mention that their son John had gone to Canada. I followed this lead up and the additional information is on his page.
