James McCracken
(1869-1932)
James McCracken was born 20th October 1869 in 30 Scotia Street, Glasgow,
and died 11th October 1932 in Asylum, Larbert, Stirlingshire. He married
Williamina Flockhart Lillie 24th June 1892 in Cowcaddens Free Church, Glasgow,
daughter of James Lillie
and Mary Flockhart. She was born 21st April 1858 in Govan, Glasgow.
James was with his parents in
1871 at 18 Melville Street, Glasgow. On 24th June 1892, Chemical Works Labourer
(probably St Rollox) By 11th October 1932, General Labourer. he lived at 58
Lyon Street, Glasgow on 21st September 1892 and 13th May 1907, Woodside Road c/o Hay
then 11th October 1932, Causewayhead Road, Stirling. He died from Cerebral
Haemorrhage, Arterio Sclerosis. From what is known, it looks like he moved to
Causewayhead with his sister Mary. He actually died in Larbert Hospital. It
seems as if he had some sort of problem which did not allow him to work but the
records state that he was able to do some light work. It is my guess that he may
have inherited epilepsy from his father or something similar.
When James married Williamina,
she was already pregnant to some other man and it was recorded on the birth
record of that child in no uncertain terms. She was a shirt machinist and lived
at 58 Lyon Street, Glasgow in 24th June 1892. She also lived there 21st September
1892. They were separated before 13th May 1907. I can find no divorce but that is
hardly surprising in those days. There does not seen to be a re-marriage record
for her and have not yet come across a death record for her either.
Child of James McCracken and Williamina Lillie is:
Margaret Lillie McCracken,
born 21th September 1892, City Poorhouse, Glasgow and died 4th
December 1893, City Poorhouse, Glasgow. Stepchild. She died from Marasmus 14 days
Although she was given the McCracken name,
she was NOT his child. Stipulated on birth certificate.
'Wilhelmina Lillie - pauper - married 24th June 1892 to James
McCracken. Wash house worker. Who she declares is not the father of
the child and further that he had no connection with her previous to
the date of her marriage and domicile, 58 Lyon Street, Glasgow'
This was entered on the
child's birth certificate. It would also seem that this child was left in
the poor house and did not survive. Sad.
This is the end of the line
for the McCracken's from James.
I have had a look at the family of Wilhelmina Lillie and have
discovered that her father would certainly NOT have been poor. I will make an
additional page with that information at some point. Hopefully somebody may well
be able to track her down. |
