The First Gray's Recorded in AlloaThe following families are only my 'best guesses' and assumptions as they were long before official records began in 1855 in Scotland. However, where people died just after 1855, we can find their parents and take the generations back from there. They then overlap with eth Old Parish Records but, beyond that, it is a process of elimination. Take into account the way in which Scottish families named their children and the first Gray's seem to fit the pattern. Where I have come to the conclusion that they could be correct will be noted and the reason for my 'hunch' will be given. Generation No.1John Gray & Agnes Morrison of AlloaJohn Gray was born about 1664 and is 'Of Alloa'. This means that he may or may not have been born there. He married Agnes Morrison in August 1689 at Alloa. She too, was 'Of Alloa' and born around 1668. They were living in Alloa at the time of their marriage. They had at least two children, John baptised 17th April 1690 and Jannet (sic) baptised 4th May 1690 both baptisms being recorded in Alloa. These children were obviously born sometime before these dates. It was not uncommon for a whole family of children to be baptised at once. |
