Grizel Gray

In Chapter One it was supposed that Grizel Gray may have died as a baby owing to being one of a set of triplets. The following Girzel may or may not be her as there is no way of verifying this accurately. However the information, which has now come to light, has been included here as it may turn out to be correct at some point. (Grace is the same name as Grizel). It has been assumed that this is the same Grizel Gray, even though the triplet may have died there is every possibility that they had another child by the same name, as this was common practise in those days.

 Generation No. 1

Grace Gray & Alexander Stupart

1.  ALEXANDER1 STUPART married GRIZEL/GRACE GRAY 16th January 1802 in Alloa, daughter of JAMES GRAY and MARGARET ANNAN/ANNAND.  She was christened. 03 July 1773 in Alloa, Clackmannanshire (Triplet).

It was found that there was a birth for a Henry Stupart to a Grizel Gray and Alexander Stupart and the following information was found from this record. There is a marriage for Alexander and Grace Gray. It could be that Grizel was known as Grace and that she did not die as suspected for triplets. Of course, it could be that there was another Grizel Gray.

Child of ALEXANDER STUPART and GRIZEL/GRACE GRAY is:

2.                 i.    HENRY2 STUPART, b. 13 June 1809, Alloa, Clackmannanshire; d. 22 January 1870, Grangepans, Carriden, Linlithgow.

The death certificate was found, for Henry which gives the names of his parents and confirms the above information. As Henrys father was a miner, this would account for Henry being born at Carriden. He married a Margaret Gray and it is a possibility that she was a cousin, as was quite common back then.

 Generation No. 2

Henry Gray & Margaret Gray

 2.  HENRY2 STUPART (ALEXANDER1) was born 13 June 1809 in Alloa, Clackmannanshire, and died 22 January 1870 in Grangepans, Carriden, Linlithgow .  He married MARGARET GRAY 14 May 1830 in Alloa, daughter of ROBERT GRAY and MARGARET DOWIE.  She was born Abt. 1808, and died 08 November 1878 in Grangepans, Carriden, Linlithgow.

Henry died from paralysis and had suffered from Bronchitis for several years. This was probably caused by being coal miner, as he was retired from that occupation, he would not have suffered and accident and most probably had a stroke. His wife Margaret died from apoplexy after 8 days, which was and old term for a stroke.
