It
was this one of my first enigma's with the
family - who was Margaret Millar? She turned out
to be
Margaret Watson who married Thomas Millar.
As he died and she was left with two small
children, I guessed she would re-marry. She did
marry James Dalrymple.

Although listed as Devon Iron Works, the family
were probably living in the cottages which, at
one time were part of Devon Iron Works. Robert
Stevenson owned Bankhead farm at this time and
he would also own these cottages. He obviously
gave employment to Christian and her brother. It
is also suspected that Elizabeth may also have
been his daughter.

I
like Elizabeth Gordon's age! She only aged 5
years in ten! We can now see Christina's sons to
Robert Stevenson listed.

As
we can see, Alexander is listed as Margaret's
nephew. In fact he was her deceased husband's
half cousin. It is not legal to marry you aunt
in England as he eventually did. Obviously they
could not work out the exact relationship so
just put down nephew, not realising how
significant this really was!
