David Meiklejohn
(1830-1912)
David Meiklejohn was born 25th April 1830 in
Clackmannan, Clackmannanshire, and died 12th May 1912 in 33 Mill Street,
Tillicoultry. He married Susan McNab on the 30th January 1863 in 76 Garnet Hill, Glasgow,
daughter of Finlay McNab and Catherine MacGregor. She was born 1827 in Comrie,
Perth, and died 12th July 1897 in Shillinghill, Tillicoultry.
In 1851 David was working as coal miner and this was more
than likely to have been at Westfield. In 1861 David was working as a ploughman
at Devon Iron Works where he was working for Robert Stevenson. His residence was
given as Devon, Old Sauchie. Between 1863 and 1867 he was working as an engine
keeper which could have been a pumping engine for the coal pit. He has not yet
been found on the 1871 census. In 1881 he was at 81 Mill Street,
Tillicoultry and a general labourer. In 1891 he was at 3 Green Place, Alva then
in 1901 he was at Shillinghill, Tillicoultry. At the time of his death he had
been employed as a Fireman (engine). He died from a Cerebral embolism,
haemiplegia and was buried in Tillicoultry cemetery on the 15th May 1912.

John Meiklejohn, born 16th December 1863, 19 Mill Street,
Tillicoultry, Clackmannan, Scotland; d. Aft. 1911.
David Meiklejohn, born 28th February 1867, 14 Crofthead,
Tillicoultry, Clackmannanshire and died 29th April 1892, 3 Green Place, Alva. He died
from bronchitis after 14 days. He was listed as having something wrong with
him on the 1881 census.
