Gwen, as
Sheila was always known, said she had no brother's or
sister's. She said she had no aunts, uncles or cousins
either but this has proved NOT to be the case.
After
researching the family for a time, I remembered the
photographs and dug them out. I knew which was Gwen's
mother and then the one which was her mother. Gwen never
mentioned what their names are, but she would probably
not have had any reason to know her grandmother's maiden
surname. I was certainly pleased to be able to put names
to the ladies in the photographs at long last.
I don't know
who the other nurse and the two babies are. The babies are
probably the children of the family who inhabited Monte
Video about 1912. The next census should provide an
answer!
The 1911
census has now provided the answer. Louisa was at
Weymouth and a nurse (domestic) to a John B Pulliblank
who was an engineer, Lieutenant in the Royal Navy. His
wife was Ethel and they had a 3 year old daughter called
Margaret. This is more than likely to be the older child
in the photo to the left. It would also explain how
Louisa met and married Alf. I do not think she would
have changed jobs between the census being taken (2nd
April 1911) and her marriage in August 1912.
John
Pulliblank was 32 and from Walton in Lancashire. His
wife was 31 and from Cerne Abbas, Dorset. They had been
married for 4 years. Their daughter Margaret B
Pulliblank was born in Saltash in Cornwall. This is not
very far from St Germans where the Knight family were
from.
