George Stevenson
'George
Stevenson, residing at No 5 Newington, Liverpool' 19th March 1863. From legal
documents. This means that he had moved, within two years, from May Street,
Belfast after March 1861 census as he does not show up on the English census at
that time.
Rennie B Stevenson
No birth was found for Rennie in England. There is the possibility that
he/she could have been born in Scotland or Ireland, or even USA? Mrs Elizabeth
Mawdsley was the householder of 38 Alexandra Rd in 1911. This may or may not
help solve this puzzle.
Thanks to Bill in Liverpool for his look-up.
Burials Found
18th May 2005
George Stevenson was buried on the 24th June 1884
in a public grave at Anfield Cemetery. This is why his wife is not buried with
him nor other family members.
12th May 2005
Thanks to Tom Stevenson, the burials for a few family members have been
found. Margaret, wife of George and their sons, Charles Mitchell Stevenson
and Robert Alexander Stevenson.
Son-in-law Thomas Marsden
and another child, Rennie
B Stevenson. It is not known who this child belonged to but he died aged 11, and
was buried on 27th May 1926. These internments are at Anfield Cemetery,
Liverpool.
New Family Members
New contacts made
A direct descendant of Robert Stevenson, who was meant to have no family, has
been in touch. Graeme Gordon is a new family member.
A new Stevenson cousin, Marny Janson has been in touch as she
is descended from George's son Robert. He was supposed to have died unmarried
according to legal documents.
Ian Fisk has made contact and hopefully will be able to add information about
Thomas James Stevenson and his family.
Thomas Stevenson has kindly permitted the use of
many photographs.
Theory
I have a hunch that William Stevenson might actually be the
son of John Stevenson and Helen Liddell. They did have a son who is near enough
the age and he was born in Stirling. This would make sense. I believe that John
was a Burgess. The reason I am hinting at this is because Rev. William Stevenson
married a Liddell from Leith and there is no tie in with this area. He may have
married a cousin. It has now come to light that his daughter's death was
registered by a cousin at Bannockburn, Edward Wilson. He is descended from the
Liddell side and by re-reading the census material I was sent from Canada, the
son John called his daughter Margaret Wilson Stevenson.
I shall be going to the archives to see what I can find about
this Stirling family and any information will be added. Stirling archives have
been moving. They will not be re-opening until 18th April - just when I needed
to go and look something up!
Sad News
It is with deep regret that I have lost a new found cousin so soon. John
Stevenson sadly departed us in January. He was a great guy and loved to find
out about the family history. I am glad to have known him however briefly.
Amazing Find!
3-Dec-2004
Discovery of
Family Tree stowed away in Court
Records. This was an exceptional find.
New Information
New information has been found by Thomas
Stevenson which may prove that the legal document
is wrong! William, son of George, was said to have died
unmarried. If that is the case then the following line can be ruled out.
However, the weight of evidence would point to the information in the legal
document being inaccurate. Somebody in the family must have thought that he had
died and never married.
