William Stevenson
(c.1846 - )
The first discovery of a son for George
Stevenson, called William, was from a legal
document. It states that William had died unmarried. However, some
information has been discovered, thanks to Thomas Stevenson, which disputes
this. As the legal paper contained the family's last known addresses it could
well be that contact was lost with this branch and some information was
incorrect.
I have followed through from what Thomas has
found and it certainly makes for a strong case FOR this being William, George's
son. We know that George's children were born in Belfast, Ireland. So here is
what the case MIGHT be. It is now known that this was,
indeed, George's son.
William Stevenson
was born in Belfast, Ireland about 1846. He married Catherine MacDonald
at Toxteth, Liverpool on 11 January 1875. Catherine was born in Dublin about 1856. She was
the daughter of John MacDonald who was born in Scotland. They died any time
after the 1901 census.
I can find no candidate for William on the
1871 census so far but have found the following for Catherine. This might not be
her as she is supposedly born in Scotland here.

The next possibility is a marriage listed for
William Stevenson and Catherine Macdonald at Toxteth in 1873. When Thomas has
that, it should prove or disprove all these theories! The certificate has the
father as George Stevenson, Car man.
Next piece of information is the 1881 census.

From the above census entries, it is obvious that there is
dubiety with William's age.
There is also a death for a child, Catherine.
Mount View was her address on the burial entry and as Thomas Stevenson has put
it "Brunswick Street is 886m from Wood street as the Stevenson flies."
The family of William Stevenson and Catherine MacDonald are:-
George Stevenson was born
about 1883.
Catherine Stevenson was born
1885 died 12 days later in 1885 Liverpool (June quarter 1885 8b 93). She is
buried in St James' Cemetery, Liverpool.
