Alexander Christie
(1789-1859)
Alexander Christie
was born about 1789 at Campbelltown, Argyll
and died at Burntisland 4th March 1859. He married Isabella Robertson on the 1st
January 1820 at Old Monkland, Lanark, Scotland. She was born about 1792 at
Campsie, Stirling and pre-deceased her husband. Alexander is buried in Old
Monkland Churchyard.
Alexander was the manager
of Calder Works in 1841 and lived at Calder House with his wife and son.
Alexander was an iron master and lived
at East Side House, Clackmannan with his wife in 1851. He became the proprietor
of Devon Iron Works in 1849. The iron works were on the North side of the road
from where Devon Village stands today. A tiny piece of the old building is still
standing and is a bit smaller than a photo I took some years ago, but which is
now lost!
In 1853, Alexander sold the Iron works
to his brother Andrew. He was still recorded as an iron
master upon his death.
