William's Son, Rev William Stevenson

BOTHKENNAR_CHURCH.JPG (40677 bytes)Bothkennar Church. Rev. William Stevenson was Minister of Bothkennar from 1848 until his death in 1884. There is a brass plaque inside the church which lists the past ministers. William was buried in the Churchyard but no stone has been found. There is a stone which could well be his but it has been lying face down in the acidic peat soil and has a white marble insert which has been eroded by the acidity. It will probably be impossible to determine what is written on it.

There does not appear to be any grave stone for Andrew Christie and Mary Stevenson. They are buried in Dunfermline Abbey Churchyard, New Section. There are no lair burials in the cemetery, they are laid side by side and not on top of each other. The stones appear odd as they have '2 rooms' written on some of them. This means that there are two people side by side. The graves are laid out west to east with the head stones at the west end. Andrew and Mary are listed as North and South rooms which mean one is to the North and one next to the South. There are not plot numbers so with no headstones it is impossible to say where Andrew and Mary are actually laid to rest.

The weather was beginning to get really bad whilst taking these photographs, hence the quality. The first three are of the Abbey Churchyard new ground where Mary Stevenson and Andrew Christie are buried. The Peacock was only inches away obviously avoiding the weather under a bush - he was not going to move!
