Helen Grindlay
(1781-1844)
Seabegs, December 2002
Helen was born 27th May 1781
probably at Seabegs. She married William
Stevenson 22nd March 1801 at Falkirk, Stirlingshire. She died 8th November 1844 at Blindwells Cottage, Tranent. This was
the home of her daughter Mary between 1842 and 1845. The grave stone at the Churchyard in
Clackmannan must have been erected after her death as her son Thomas died before her and
he is mentioned last on the stone. Whether Helen is actually buried with her husband at
Clackmannan or in Tranent is unknown.
Death.-- At Blindwell Cottage, near Tranent, on the 8th
instant, Mrs Stevenson, relict of William Stevenson, Esq., of Park, near Alloa |
From the Clackmannanshire
Advertiser, Alloa, November 16th 1844
It seems that her brother John was a doctor of medicine and was
associated with the infamous Burke & Hare. Another page will be dedicated to the
Grindlay family in due course.
