Could this be the Parents
of
William Stevenson?
This is the story of
William
Stevenson and his family.
A most interesting family line
to research and yet more to uncover!
 The only birth record, which
I have found, and seems to match is for a William Stevenson, born August 1st and baptised 25th August 1765 at Dunlop in
Ayrshire. This would make him 73 years, 11 months and 26 days old at the time of
his death.
On his grave stone is states:-
Sacred
to the memory of
Mr William Stevenson
who died 27th July 1839
aged 74 years
I think that 74 is near enough
'73 years, 11 months and 26 days'
Of course this is just
guesswork on my part - but rather convincing though!
According to the naming
tradition in Scotland, William's first born son should be John after his own
father. Of course William's first born son was indeed called John, which would
make us believe his father would also have been John. The first born daughter
would be named after his wife's mother, who was Margaret Hill (m.s. Barr). The
next daughter he has was called Ann which could have been after William's mother
Agnes. I believe that these two names are often synonymous with each other. His parents would
have been John Stevenson and Agnes Cochran, however, this can only be a 'best
guess' for them at this time.
