The Family History

of

William Stevenson

This is the story of William Stevenson and his family.

A most interesting family line to research and yet more to uncover!

On occasion the name Stevenson has been spelled with a 'PH' instead of a 'V'. It has been more commonly spelled Stevenson but both spellings will have to be taken into account when researching. In one instance both spellings were used for the same family listed on a census return, i.e. some members of the family were one way and some the other. Seems a strange occurrence when the same person must have written the names!

As yet, the place of birth and parentage of William have not been found. He was married twice with issue from both marriages. He was a Vintner, Inn Keeper and Farmer. He loaned large amounts of money to various Lords of Scotland as well as lesser mortals. He inherited and owned many properties in and around the area.

His children scattered far and wide, throughout Scotland, England and Canada. Grandchildren emigrated to Australia and further generations are in Germany, France and America. One line has remained close to home...........and I'm not budging!

Here begins the tale of a very clever and wealthy man who was shrewd in business.

From here there are links to the family and their descendants. Siblings have a navigation bar as well as children where appropriate. To return to their parents, just click on the 'up' link. back and Next will take you to the siblings.

Other Navigation bars will take you to other families who are linked in to the Stevensons, where one or more have married into the family.

There are also links to documents and legal papers where lots of information has been found.

I hope the site is a bit better organised and a good bit more navigable now. Some links may be broken but there is usually another link somewhere on a page to take you where you need to go. These links should be repaired eventually.
