Jack

Jack was born, John Charles Blake Wyle, on the 2nd April 1910, at 7 Vine Cottages, Hanwell, Brentford, Middlesex.

As he had no birth certificate, the first thing to do was find one!

If he had been found in an orchard, how would he know where and when he was born? Somebody must have known!!! Either his adoptive parents or a family member.

The English indexes were checked, there WAS a birth record for a John Charles Blake Wyle on that very date. A copy of this certificate was obtained, it also told us who his mother had been, Sarah Louisa Wyle. She was a Cook (domestic) and there was no father mentioned. She had registered the birth, therefore, had not died in childbirth.

Now we knew the answer to the first puzzle. He had been adopted because of his mother's marital status and had probably been told a story to 'cover up'.

Which leads to a couple of new enigma's! Who was his mother and who were his adoptive parents? We never knew anything about his adoptive parents, not even their names. This seems a bit odd but was probably just assumed that Gordon, his son, would know. On occasion, whilst playing crib, Jack would tell a story about his father but would always correct this by inserting 'STEP' father. I had never heard him mention his step mother.
